This Midwest native tree features showy white flowers in early spring followed by pea-sized fruits in late summer, which are devoured by local wildlife.

  • Serves as a host to six species of butterflies and moths
  • Attracts pollinators like honey bees with its clusters of small white flowers
  • Its cherries are edible and used often to make wine, jams and jellies
  • Among the most important sources of food for forest wildlife, it's a particular favorite of the black bear
  • Can live up to 250 years and grow up to 125 feet tall

  • Easily reach this section from the Welcome Area and parking
  • Stroll and picnic in natural clearings with grassy, level ground and rolling hills
  • Explore deer paths through some of the largest trees in the forest

This is the most conveniently located section of the forest, with easy access to the Welcome Area and parking.

Natural clearings create space for sunlight to filter through generously spaced trees. The ground is level, other than a few rolling hills. The lush grass understory creates a park-like feel, making this section a customer favorite for leisurely walks and picnics.

Deer paths meander through this section, amid some of the largest trees in the forest.

The southern edge runs parallel with the main road and can be seen by passersby. The trees here greet visitors as they enter the property and act as a natural barrier, protecting the rest of the forest from road noise.
