This area overlooks the expansive Larkspur Meadow below, offering unobstructed views of the San Francisco peaks in the distance.

Situated at the forest’s edge, trees in this area have the best views of the expansive Larkspur Meadow. At sunset, you can watch Ponderosa Ridge illuminate in purple and pink hues.

In spring, the meadow comes to life in yellow and purple from blooming larkspur, lupine, iris, and other wildflowers. 

In warmer months, you can spot local wildlife like deer, turkeys, squirrels, butterflies, and bluebirds wandering through the field. 

This part of the forest is home to some of the most magnificent quaking aspens in the forest, along with a few stately douglas firs and rare white pines. 

Aspen groves are a favorite hangout for wildlife, who nibble on aspen sprouts and hide under the canopy for cover and shade. Bluebirds, flickers, and chickadees can all be found nesting in these trees.
